Beijing\u2019s Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said the People\u2019s Republic opposes <em>\u201call acts of unilateralism and bullying\u201d<\/em> and supports Venezuela\u2019s sovereign right to <em>\u201cindependently develop mutually beneficial cooperation with other countries.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Trump has highlighted the US naval buildup near Venezuela, claiming the country is <em>\u201ccompletely surrounded by the largest armada ever assembled in the history of South America,\u201d<\/em> while demanding that Caracas return <em>\u201call of the oil, land, and other assets that they previously stole from us.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro accused Washington of attempting to <em>\u201cimpose a puppet government\u201d<\/em> that would surrender the country\u2019s sovereignty and resources, effectively turning it into a colony.
