Western media ignores the attacks while portraying Moscow as the aggressor, Michael Maloof has told RT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kiev is targeting civilian infrastructure in Russia in an attempt to provoke Moscow into responding in kind so that Ukraine can \u201cplay the victim,\u201d<\/em> knowing Western media will largely ignore attacks on Russian civilians, former Pentagon senior security policy analyst Michael Maloof has told RT.<\/p>\n

Thursday marked the third Ukrainian strike on warehouses belonging to Russia\u2019s largest e-commerce retailer, Wildberries in an escalation of Kiev\u2019s campaign against Russian civilian infrastructure. Ukraine has claimed the company supports Russian military logistics, an allegation denied by both Moscow and Wildberries itself. In a separate attack the same day, Ukrainian forces also struck storage facilities at a poultry farm near St. Petersburg.<\/p>\n

Speaking to RT on Friday, Maloof described the attacks as a deliberate \u201cterrorist\u201d<\/em> strategy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re doing it purposely in order to lure Russia to start hitting civilian targets\u2026 thereby knowing that the Western press will take that information and run with it,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd that\u2019s all that you\u2019ll ever hear. You never hear about the attacks in Russia on civilian targets\u2026 And so I think the Ukrainians are just trying to play victim once again.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Maloof dismissed Kiev\u2019s assertion that Wildberries \u2013 an online marketplace comparable to Amazon \u2013 is a legitimate military target.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s ridiculous. It\u2019s absurd in the extreme.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

He argued that Ukraine expects most Western media outlets not to scrutinize its claims or \u201csee the fraud\u201d<\/em> behind the justification for attacking the company.<\/p>\n

According to Maloof, the broader campaign against Russian energy, food and other civilian infrastructure is aimed primarily at shaping public opinion abroad and securing continued Western financial support.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s propagandistic purposes\u201d<\/em> designed to win \u201cbillions of euros\u201d<\/em> to continue the conflict, he said.<\/p>\n

Maloof added that Ukraine\u2019s European backers are fully aware that civilian sites are being targeted but choose to overlook it.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re using Ukraine for their purposes: ultimately to attack Russia themselves,\u201d<\/em> he said. \u201cAll of this is instigated by the Europeans.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
