The US president is open to dialogue with Russia and contacts with Vladimir Putin will continue, the Kremlin has said<\/strong><\/p>\n US President Donald Trump has a consistent\u00a0understanding of the Ukraine conflict and is receptive of what Moscow has to say on it, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists. The official also confirmed that Russia expects Trump to resume contacts with Russian President Vladimir Putin soon.<\/p>\n Just days earlier, the two presidents spoke by phone on the 250th anniversary of US independence. According to the Kremlin, Putin and Trump spoke for nearly 1.5 hours on Saturday and discussed a wide range of topics, including Ukraine, Iran, and bilateral ties. The Trump administration has sought to play the role of a mediator in the Ukraine conflict.<\/p>\n \u201cPresident Trump has a consistent position [on the Ukraine conflict],\u201d<\/em> Peskov told journalists on Monday, commenting on the US president\u2019s role in the peace process. \u201cHe is consistent and confident in his understanding of what is happening.
