However, on Thursday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters that the meeting produced only <em>\u201ca proposal\u201d<\/em> and no agreement.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThere really were no agreements in Anchorage,\u201d<\/em> Putin confirmed.<strong><br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>However, the compromises which Russia discussed and eventually accepted at the meeting were proposed by the American side, he said. The \u2018Spirit of Anchorage\u2019 was not <em>\u201cembodied in any formal documents\u201d<\/em> but both sides discussed certain possibilities for settling the Ukraine conflict.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>We were asked to accept the compromises formulated by the American negotiators. Ukraine\u2019s Vladimir Zelensky \u2013 and his European backers \u2013 has categorically rejected any territorial concessions.<\/p>\n<p>Putin has repeatedly stressed that for a lasting peace deal, Kiev must withdraw Ukrainian forces from the portion of Donbass it still controls.
