At least eight people have been killed and 11 others wounded in a Ukrainian drone strike on a passenger bus in Russia\u2019s Donetsk People\u2019s Republic (DPR), local governor Denis Pushilin has said.<\/p>\n

The bus was traveling between Moscow and the Crimean city of Simferopol and was attacked in the town of Enakievo in the western part of the DPR, Pushilin wrote in a post on Telegram on Wednesday morning. The initial death toll stood at seven, but it was revised later in the day when emergency services inspected the burned-out vehicle.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Ukrainian fascists have committed another act of unprecedented, inhumane aggression,\u201d<\/em> the governor said.<\/p>\n

Pushilin expressed condolences to the relatives and friends of those killed in the attack and wished a speedy recovery to the injured, who, he said, are being provided with all necessary medical assistance.<\/p>\n

Russia\u2019s human rights commissioner, Yana Lantratova, asserted that the attack was \u201cnot a tragic accident\u201d<\/em> but rather a \u201cvile, deliberate, and inhumane crime\u201d<\/em> against non-combatants.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are no military objectives that could justify the bloodshed of civilians. There are no arguments that can absolve those who issue and execute such criminal orders from responsibility,\u201d<\/em> she stressed.<\/p>\n

Russia\u2019s Investigative Committee has announced that a terrorism case has been opened over the attack on the bus.<\/p>\n

Russia was hit by another major Ukrainian drone attack overnight, with 345 UAVs shot down across the country, according to the Defense Ministry. The interceptions took place over Moscow, Leningrad, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Novgorod, Orel, Pskov, Rostov, Smolensk, Tver, Tula, and Krasnodar regions, as well as over Crimea and the Sea of Azov, the ministry said.<\/p>\n

Several people were hurt and infrastructure damaged in Ukrainian drone attacks on St. Petersburg on the opening day of the 29th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), local governor Alexander Beglov said.<\/p>\n

At least 59 UAVs were shot down by air defenses above Leningrad Region, according to governor Aleksandr Drozdenko. Leningrad Region surrounds St. Petersburg, which has the status of a federal city.<\/p>\n

A drone alert was declared in St. Petersburg, with the city\u2019s Pulkovo Airport temporarily halting flights.<\/p>\n

SPIEF 2026, which is often referred to as \u2018Russian Davos\u2019 due to being the main global economic event hosted by the country, is taking place between June 3 and 6. This year\u2019s forum will be attended by some 20,000 businesspeople, politicians, and public figures from more than 100 nations. Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to address the gathering on Friday.<\/p>\n

Moscow previously warned that it would carry out \u201csystematic and consistent strikes\u201d<\/em> on Ukraine\u2019s military infrastructure, including drone production facilities, command posts, and \u201cdecision-making centers,\u201d<\/em> in response to Kiev\u2019s terrorist attacks, including the one in Russia\u2019s Lugansk People\u2019s Republic on May 22.<\/p>\n

Ukrainian forces struck a college dormitory in the town of Starobelsk in several waves of drone attacks late at night while students were asleep, killing 21 people, mostly teenage girls, and injuring 70 others.<\/p>\n

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday that the Ukrainian leadership had opened \u201ca new chapter in its crime spree\u201d<\/em> with the attack on Starobelsk, adding that those responsible would face \u201cwell-deserved and inevitable punishment.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Russian forces carried out another large-scale missile and drone strike against Ukraine, targeting defense industry facilities in Kiev, parts of Zaporozhye and Kherson regions still under Kiev\u2019s control, as well as in Dnepropetrovsk, Poltava, Khmelnitsky, and Sumy regions, according to the Defense Ministry in Moscow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
