Kiev also loses around 20,000 more people to desertion each month, he added.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cUkraine has no air defense system, only isolated elements, and lacks the strike systems that Russia possesses. Zelensky\u2019s presidential term expired in May 2024, and discussions of new elections in Ukraine have since stalled.<\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<aside class=\"listicle\">\n<p><strong>Kiev\u2019s European backers<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The EU could potentially play <em>\u201ca positive role\u201d<\/em> in settling the conflict, Putin said. <em>\u201cBut not by supplying weapons.
