The Russian military has commented on its massive overnight response to Ukraine\u2019s massacre in Lugansk Region<\/strong><\/p>\n Russian forces launched a \u201cmassive strike\u201d<\/em> overnight against military targets in Ukraine, using intermediate-range hypersonic Oreshnik system and Iskander ballistic missiles, Kinzhal and Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles, air-, sea- and ground-launched cruise missiles, as well as attack drones.<\/p>\n The strike came after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the Defense Ministry to \u201csubmit proposals\u201d<\/em> for a response to a Ukrainian drone attack on a teacher training college dormitory in the Lugansk People\u2019s Republic, which left 21 people dead and 42 injured, mostly teenage girls.<\/p>\n The bombardment targeted the Ukrainian military\u2019s command and control facilities, air bases, and the country\u2019s defense industry enterprises, the ministry said.\u00a0No strikes had been planned or carried out against civilian infrastructure, it added. \u201cThe objectives of the strike have been achieved. All designated targets were hit,\u201d<\/em> it stressed.<\/p>\n \n Read more<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Earlier on Sunday, Ukrainian media and Telegram channels circulated videos showing clusters of bright objects rapidly descending from the sky, claiming that Russia had deployed an Oreshnik against an unspecified target in the town of Belaya Tserkov near Ukraine\u2019s capital, Kiev.<\/p>\n The dormitory of Starobelsk College, a facility of Lugansk Pedagogical University located in the town of Starobelsk, was struck<\/a> by multiple waves of Ukrainian drones on Friday while students were asleep inside, in what Putin described as a deliberate \u201cterrorist act.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Governor Leonid Pasechnik declared May 24-25 days of mourning, describing the attack as \u201cpure evil\u201d<\/em> and saying those responsible would face \u201cdeserved and inevitable punishment.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Earlier, the US Embassy in Kiev warned American citizens of a \u201cpotentially significant air attack\u201d<\/em> that could take place within 24 hours and urged them to be ready to seek shelter immediately if an air alert was issued.<\/p>\n
