Rosatom has launched engineering surveys in Kazakhstan to select a site for the facility<\/strong><\/p>\n State-owned Russian nuclear corporation Rosatom has launched engineering surveys to determine the site of Kazakhstan\u2019s first nuclear power plant. Project officials have described the undertaking as strategically important for the country\u2019s future.<\/p>\n Despite Western efforts to squeeze Russian technology out of global markets following the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, Rosatom has continued working on projects while signing new contracts in multiple countries.<\/p>\n In a statement on Friday, the corporation said \u201cengineering surveys to determine the optimal site and prepare design documentation for the future high-capacity NPP\u201d<\/em> were underway in Kazakhstan\u2019s Almaty Region.<\/p>\n Rosatom CEO Aleksey Likhachev, who attended the launch ceremony, described the project as \u201cstrategically important for Kazakhstan\u2019s development.\u201d<\/em> Kazakhstan\u2019s atomic energy agency chief, Almasadam Satkaliyev, similarly hailed the undertaking as the country’s\u00a0\u201cstrategic choice and a driver of long-term regional and national economic growth.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
